As soon as lockdown was lifted in May 2021 we headed out on the NC500 with the family for a quick escape. With us in the New Defender and the grandparents who were up from London in the Discovery 4 we ventured out to show off what the beautiful west coast has to offer.
On our second night we stayed at Clachtoll Beach Campsite and had a wonderful experience, we only wish we could have stayed longer.
From the moment we booked it was evident that Tom & Andy take pride in their campsite. Their customer service is the best we’ve had yet and this is mirrored in the way they run their camp. You’re personally greeted on arrival, shown around the facilities and taken to your pitch. The views are spectacular and the beach is amazing and must be experienced at least once by everyone. But hurry, they’re almost fully booked for 2021 and are already taking bookings for 2022.
Read below for our personal take on our experience.
AMAZING VIEWS
Before you even arrive at Clachtoll Beach Campsite you’ll already be in awe of the view on the drive in. The terrain shifts quite drastically from what you would have gone through previously on the NC500. From the moment you turn off before Lochinver you’ll be gasping around every corner.
We weren’t sure what to expect on arrival and knew the view would be breathtaking but what we found exceeded all expectations. Although we thought the campsite was “on” the beach and not a short walk away, this was not a problem as the walk is a quick & easy one.
We were lucky enough to have booked a serviced “sea-front” pitch meaning we had a full view of the sea in front of our camp without any other campers in our view.
GREAT FACILITIES
A great deal of thought has gone into setting up this campsite for a 5* camping experience while being eco-friendly.
The wash bays are simple and offer an uncovered area for those sunny days, but not to worry they also have covered bays for those dreary days.
Their shower block is super clean and offers showers & toilets as well as a family bathroom.
THE EXTRA TOUCH
What sets this campsite apart from others we’ve stayed at is the extra touch they’ve added. Such as:
Providing you with washing up soap or detergent for the washing machines (to ensure only eco-friendly products are used).
Offering a few wetsuits for use should you wish to brave the cold water (just wash & return them when you’re done).
Kids beach/lawn toys, wellies & waterproofs in case you’ve left yours behind (just wash & return them when you’re done).
Dog Bar & Wifi Spot; the porch on the toilet block is the hot spot for wifi so there you’ll find a few rocking chairs to catch up on the outside world. There’s also a watering hole for the doggo’s and a wee treat box too. They also have a supply of poop bags so there’s no excuse!
Their kitchen facilities are also amazing. With a lovely seating area half-covered, half-open which is beautifully decorated with fairy lights. Here they a microwave, kettle, etc for those who need it. We didn’t experience this area as we had everything we needed in our WildTrax camping kit.
